Involving Churches in Collegiate Missions

Local Campus Strategy
• Invite a pastor/staff member or member of your Advisory Committee to be a part of your team
o Ask a pastor/staff to help with witness training
o Ask pastor/staff to help with cultural training
• Have students ask parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts to
add your mission team to their local church prayer list.
• Have students ask at 5 to10 people from their church to commit to pray for them each day of the mission
o Send prayer partners a detailed schedule and/or prayer card reminder
o Send prayer partners a thank you at the end of project
o Tell them you will be happy to give a report to the church when you return home
• Ask a nurse to be a female chaperone
o Nurses are great mission partners
o Female chaperones help me keep track of all my student’s needs
• Send a letter to team member’s pastor outlining students appointment and project objectives
o Invite pastor/staff and family to a commissioning service
o Have student ask pastor/staff to have a part in the program
o Make this a focus on all your missions and leadership programming
• Be a Missions Mentor
o Let pastors/staff know “you can do this also!”
o Offer a “vision” element to your projects
o Include participants in your fund raising activities
o Show them how to make it happen by showing them how you make it happen
o Explore partnership possibilities
