Building and Maintaining a Local Financial Support Base
Tracy Moser
BSU Director, Blue Mountain College

How to Build a Financial Support Base
•    Determine churches in area that might be most interested in supporting your BSU Program (pastors who are graduates of your institution, students from their church involved in your program).
•    Set up a visit  with the pastor.  Personal visits are more effective than letters or blanket appeals at Associational Meetings or other events.
•    Be patient.  Sometimes it takes years for them to join in support.  Trust the Lord to provide.

Tips for the Personal Visits
•    Know something about the church and the pastor.
•    Be able to communicate why they should invest in your program.
•    Educate.  Many do not understand that we are dependent on churches for our budgets.

How to Maintain a Financial Support Base
•    Send thank you letters to your support base communicating  the value of their investment.  Include highlights of  the  school year and possibly a student testimony.
•    Send newsletters on a regular basis ( one each semester, and other promotional information).

Relating  to Churches and Associations
•    Use the Associational Newsletter for publicizing events.
•    Include associations with newsletters.
•    Invite area churches to an event.
•    Ask for help, such as with exam care packages.
•    Be willing to help the churches when asked.
•    Continually communicate the message that the BSU is their ministry to college students on the college campus.
•    Plan an event such as a youth related event, or training in ministry.
