Here's the ministry structure of the University of Georgia.
2007-08 – UGA BCM Mission Team
Expectations of all team members:
  • Is committed to Jesus Christ as Lord
  • Is a faithful supporter of a local church
  • Has a lifestyle that reflects a genuine commitment to Christ
  • Abstains from the use of alcohol or illegal drugs
  • Recruit volunteers and have them complete and submit a GBC Child Protection Policy and Agreement form (and annual renewal)
  • Has at least a 2.0 GPA
 
Black Level (Team Leaders)

Job Descriptions:
Black Level: President
Responsible To: Supervising campus minister, campus ministers, staff, Mission Team, and BCM members
Duties:
1.      Provide care and encouragement to mission team members
2.      Encourage the importance and centrality of Discipleship in each BCM member’s life
3.      Work with campus ministers to fill positions, replace leaders, and appoint committees as necessary
4.      Call and preside over the Mission Team and Team Leader’s meetings
5.      Serve as ex-officio member on all BCM mission teams, with specific duties including:
a.       Serve on and meet weekly with the BCM Gathering Team:
                                                                                      i.      To ensure worship addresses the needs of the whole BCM
                                                                                    ii.      To have a voice in all aspects of programming
b.      Serve on the Collegiate Missions Local Interview Committee during spring semester
c.       Serve on Spring Banquet/Dance planning team
6.      Represent the local BCM on the state BCM leadership team and serve as the contact person with the Georgia Baptist Convention Collegiate Ministries office
7.      Act as a liaison with UGA to provide information on opportunities offered by the University community
8.      Be Outreach minded:
a.       Encourage outreach mindfulness on the part of each mission team and the BCM as a whole
b.      Work closely with each Team Leader to provide outreach opportunities
9.      Facilitate the Communications Team to organize information to effectively market and publicize events and ministries of BCM
a.       Coordinate photo/video-journaling of BCM events and ministries
b.      Facilitate information table at Gathering (collect money, encourage sign-ups, etc.)
c.       Serve as filter/coordinator for all announcements and publicity (including what is announced in Gathering each week)
d.      Meet with members of the communications team frequently to plan, strategize, organize, and delegate communications for events

Red Level:Bulletin Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Recruit volunteers to produce, copy, fold, and distribute The Bulletin for Gathering
2.      Work with the President to prepare a comprehensive overview of BCM programs and activities to be handed out at Open House 1 and 2
3.      Meet with Communications Team frequently to plan, strategize, organize, and delegate communications for events
4.      Attend Worship Team Meetings
Skills: Desktop publishing in PageMaker 6.5; attention to details
 
Red Level: In-House Publicity Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Recruit a team to assist in in-center publicity, including:
a.       Posters
b.      Booths and displays for events
2.      Meet with Communications Team frequently to plan, strategize, organize, and delegate communications for events
Skills: Artistic; Poster design/making experience; good organizational skills & motivational abilities
 
Red Level: Community Publicity Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Produce and distribute promotional material for BCM events and functions to churches and area businesses (flyers, banners, letters, etc.)
2.      Act as a liaison between BCM and local churches to publicize needs and services of churches
3.      Provide Athens Banner Herald, The Christian Index and The Red and Black with information on BCM events
4.      Attend Discipleship Team meetings
5.      Recruit a team of students to assist with the following:
a.       Produce and distribute promotional material for BCM events and functions on campus (flyers, banners, bus cards, etc.)
b.      Provide Red & Black with information on BCM events
c.       Put together and provide volunteers for Tate Center activity booths as needed
d.      Produce promotional posters for BCM center as needed and requested
e.       Continually update and remove signs

White Level: DawgFest Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Put together a team in the spring to plan a week of events between move-in day and the first day of classes in August
2.      Delegate responsibilities to team members to accomplish tasks
3.      Attend post-school planning retreat (at time requested by President)
4.      Attend pre-school planning retreat (at time requested by President)
5.      Contact the housing office early in the spring following DawgFest to begin conversations in preparation for the next year’s program

Black Level: Discipleship Team Leader
Responsible to: Supervising Campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      In conjunction with the supervising campus minister and men’s and women’s ministry coordinators, plan a discipleship program for small group leaders:
a.       Plan the bi-weekly training sessions to assist each group leader to improve as a discipler and to review current Bible Study lessons
b.      Work with the small group leaders to coordinate fellowship activities for small groups
2.      Manage the Discipleship team budget in conjunction with the supervising campus minister
3.      Ensure that interested students are placed into appropriate Small Groups
4.      Throughout the year, seek to involve as many students as possible in the Discipleship ministry through ongoing publicity and follow-up
5.      Coordinate with the communications team ongoing announcements and sign-ups for small groups
6.      Work with campus ministers to coordinate and promote special, short-term campus minister & local minister-led studies throughout the year
7.      Promote the Collegiate Ministries Department sponsored meetings to the BCM
Skills: Ability to be a team player, understand the process of Christian Growth and Discipleship, good communication skills, previous service on Discipleship or New Dawg Team, and good organizer
 
Red Level: Women’s Ministry Coordinator

3.      Visit small groups as appropriate for encouragement and support

Gray Level: Small Group Leaders (18+)
Responsible to: Discipleship Team Coach
Duties:
1.      Lead a weekly small group Bible study
2.      Seek to personally disciple each individual within the small group to take them to the next level of their faith journey (will involve individual time outside of small group meetings)
3.      Contact small group members weekly (outside of small group time)
4.      Serve as a liaison between BCM missions team and your small group, promoting BCM activities within the small group and participating in BCM activities together
5.      Serve as a small group facilitator at BCM retreats

Black Level: New Dawg Team Leader
Responsible to: Supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Coordinate ministries of the NewDawg team (reaching out to new UGA students including first year and transfer students) taking into consideration the particular needs of new students, while fitting this ministry into the BCM’s regular activities (particular attention should be focused on calendaring and the BCM annual theme)
2.      Manage NewDawg budget in conjunction with the supervising campus minister
3.      Promote the discipleship program to new students
4.      Seek to involve as many students as possible in the new student ministry as well as overall BCM programs and ministries including mission trips, summer missions, community action, outreach, worship, and prayer
5.      Oversee the care package project each semester as the NewDawg missions fundraiser
6.      Work with the NewDawg music, drama, and media coordinators to plan for and oversee planning of NewDawg Nite
7.      Plan for and meet with NewDawg ministry team bi-weekly
8.      Attend NewDawg Nite
9.      Plan and lead fellowship activities for new students

Red Level: 2 NewDawg Coaches
Responsible to: Supervising campus minister and New Dawg Team Leader
Duties:
1.      Oversee, support and encourage (m/f) NewDawg small group leaders through weekly Bible Study and personal contact
2.      Model discipleship principles to small group leaders; offer ideas on building community and accountability in NewDawg groups
3.      Visit small groups as appropriate for encouragement and support
4.      Weekly pray for and with small group leaders
Skills: Previous service as NewDawg or small group leader required, previous service on the NewDawg team is helpful; ability to be a team player; encourager; ability to lead and coordinate the ministries of a diverse group of leaders; ability to manage details; ability to delegate
 
Gray Level: NewDawg Small Group Leaders (10 girls/8 guys)
Responsible to: NewDawg Team coach and NewDawg Coordinator
Duties:
1.      Lead a weekly small group Bible study
2.      Seek to personally disciple each individual within the small group to take them to the next level of their faith journey (will involve individual time outside of small group meetings)
3.      Contact small group members weekly (outside of small group time)
4.      Serve as a liaison between BCM missions team and your small group, promoting BCM activities within the small group and participating in BCM activities together
5.      Be a small group facilitator at NewDawg Retreat as needed
6.      Attend NewDawg Nite
7.      Meet with NewDawg coach weekly for Bible Study and encouragement

Gray Level: NewDawg Band Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and NewDawg Leader
Duties:
1.      In conjunction with the NewDawg Team coaches, form and lead the NewDawg band
2.      Work with the NewDawg Leader to select and plan the musical portion of NewDawg Nite (sometimes with the entire band, sometimes providing accompaniment for individuals, etc.)
3.      Lead appropriate music at NewDawg Nite when and as requested
4.      Attend NewDawg Nite planning meetings as requested to plan worship music for each week
a.       Ensure for diversity of participation among groups and individuals
b.      Ensure music assists in developing the theme of the service
Skills: Musical knowledge and expertise; understanding of worship theology and planning; experience playing/singing in a praise band; team player; ability to work as part of a diverse team; flexible
 
Gray Level: NewDawg Drama Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and NewDawg Nite team leader
Duties:
1.      Serve on the NewDawg Nite team to plan the creative use of drama in NewDawg Nite
a.       Ensure for diversity of participation among groups and individuals
b.      Ensure that drama assists in developing the theme of the night
c.       Work with the NewDawg Nite media coordinator and NewDawg Nite coaches to write/direct/film videos for use in NewDawg Nite
2.      Coordinate NewDawg Nite Drama groups, planning and conducting necessary rehearsals
3.      Serve on the Drama audition team

Gray Level: NewDawg Media Coordinator (oversees video production, PowerPoint, sound, lights, etc.)

Duties:
1.      Serve on the NewDawg Nite Planning team
2.      Recruit and facilitate a media crew to assist with all technical details of NewDawg Nite, including:
a.       Preparation and running of PowerPoint/MediaShout in NewDawg Nite
b.      Preparation, editing, and showing of videos for NewDawg Nite
c.       Oversee sound/light needs for NewDawg Nite
d.      Preparation of any accessories for NewDawg Nite
Skills: Great communicator; creative; good organizational skills; experience with media ministries including PowerPoint/MediaShout and video editing
 
Black Level: Worship Team Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Coordinate the various worship groups/teams to work together:
a.       Coordinating the various aspects of worship to create excellence
b.      Leading the BCM to worship in a variety of ways
c.       Educating the BCM about worship methods, styles and expressions
2.      Lead the Gathering team in planning the weekly worship event incorporating as many members of BCM as possible throughout the year
3.      Plan and lead pre-gathering logistics meetings
4.      Work with the Bulletin Coordinator of the Communications team to get necessary information communicated and publicized
5.      Serve on the Music and Drama audition teams
6.      Coordinate the volunteer worship team ministry, which will provide volunteers to assist with greeting, ushering, prayer partners, and set-up of Gathering.
7.      Coordinate (serve as a captain of) a volunteer team that is responsible for the logistics and ministry of staffing one Gathering each month

Red Level: Impact Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Worship Team leader
Duties:
1.      Communicate with churches about BCM’s impact ministries
a.       Serve as contact/booking agent for drama and music groups
b.      Communicate with teams/students to schedule events
c.       Serve as coordinator for D’Now events in churches
2.      Work with Communications Team to publicize impact ministry opportunities (Bulletin Coordinator liaison)
3.      Conduct an impact training meeting each semester
4.      Conduct meetings to coordinate ministries for specific bookings
5.      Keep a record of teams, destinations and performances
6.      Coordinate travel insurance needs with Administrative Assistant prior to teams departure
7.      Coordinate (serve as a captain of) a volunteer team that is responsible for the logistics and ministry of staffing one Gathering each month

Red Level: Prayer Coordinator
Responsible to: Supervising campus minister and Worship Team Leader
Duties:
1.      Collect and respond to prayer concerns of BCM members and the campus
2.      Maintain BCM prayer room
3.      Plan and promote prayer events
4.      Promote prayer education in the BCM
5.      Serve on the Gathering Team
6.      Coordinate (serve as a captain of) a volunteer team that is responsible for the logistics and ministry of staffing one Gathering each month
7.      Establish and work with an encouragement team
a.       Coordinate Encouragement Partners among the Mission Team (1st month of Fall)
b.      Write a Monthly Encouragement Newsletter to Mission Team
c.       Arrange a team at Open House to work with you
d.      Meet and work with the Prayer Coordinator to pray for those encouraged monthly
e.       Have all supplies and materials ready for meetings
f.       With Team:
                                                                                      i.      Write and send postcards of encouragement for each person in the phonebook (and ask the prayer team pray over those names)
                                                                                    ii.      Write and sent postcards of encouragement to all the local Pastors (with prayer)
                                                                                  iii.      Write and send messages of encouragement to the Mission Team (spring semester)
                                                                                  iv.      Write messages and prepare packages for the Summer Missionaries from BCM.
                                                                                    v.      Help with the annual Serepta Pastor & Wives Dinner (encouragement note at place setting)

Red Level: Gathering Music Coordinator (should not direct/lead one of the performance groups)

1.      Serve on the Gathering team to plan worship music for each week
d.      Ensure for diversity of participation among groups and individuals
e.       Ensure music assists in developing the theme of the service
2.      Serve on the Music and DT audition teams
3.      Coordinate (serve as a captain of) a volunteer team that is responsible for the logistics and ministry of staffing one Gathering each month

Gray Level: Celebration Director
Responsible to: supervising campus minister, Gathering Music coordinator, and Impact coordinator
Duties:
1.      Assist with Fall music auditions to select music teams/bands
2.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
3.      Lead weekly Celebration (vocal ensemble) rehearsals
4.      Work with impact coordinator to provide music for churches when requested
5.      Work with the music coordinator to provide occasional music for Gathering
6.      Ability to locate appropriate music for repertoire
7.      Obtain travel assurance as needed
Skills: Musical knowledge and expertise; understanding of worship theology and planning; experience singing/leading a vocal ensemble; ability to work with a diverse group; leadership skills; team player; ability to coordinate with pastors, church staff to assist with church worship
 
Gray Level: Impact Band Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister, Gathering Music coordinator, and Impact coordinator
Duties:
1.      Assist with Fall music auditions to select music teams/bands
2.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
3.      Lead weekly Impact Praise Band rehearsals
4.      Work with Music Coordinator to schedule worship leadership in Gathering as requested
5.      Work with Impact Coordinator to book performances in churches & associations
6.      Secure travel insurance for any out of town trip

Red Level: Gathering Band Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Gathering Music coordinator
Duties:
1.      In conjunction with the Music Coordinator, form (in the spring) and lead the BCM house band
2.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
3.      Work with the music coordinator to select and plan the musical portion of Gathering (sometimes with the entire band, sometimes providing accompaniment for individuals, etc.)
4.      Lead appropriate music in Gathering when and as requested
5.      Serve on the Music audition team during Spring Semester to select next year’s band; conduct practices in advance to be ready for Open House

Red Level: Gathering Media Coordinator (oversees video production, PowerPoint, sound, lights, etc.)

2.      Recruit and facilitate a media team to assist with all technical details of worship, including:
a.       Preparation and running of PowerPoint in Gathering
b.      Preparation and showing of video needs in Gathering
c.       Oversee sound/light needs for Gathering
d.      Preparation of any accessories for worship

Red Level: Gathering Drama Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Worship Team leader
Duties:
1.      Meet weekly with supervising campus minister
2.      Serve on the Gathering team to plan the creative use of drama in worship
3.      Ensure for diversity of participation among groups and individuals
4.      Ensure that drama assists in developing the theme of the service
5.      Work with the media coordinator to write/direct/film videos for use in worship
6.      Coordinate the Drama groups to make sure each is being used sufficiently in worship and in outside performances
7.      Serve on the Drama audition committee in the fall

3.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
4.      Select dramas and skits for repertoire
5.      Work with Impact coordinator to book engagements in churches and associations
6.      Work with churches as needs and requests arise
7.      Prepare and perform skits / videos for use in Gathering as requested
8.      Secure travel insurance

2.      Conduct Dance Team Auditions in the fall
3.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
4.      Select appropriate dances for repertoire
5.      Work with Impact coordinator to book engagements in churches and associations
6.      Work with churches as needs and requests arise
7.      Prepare and perform dances for use in Gathering as requested
8.      Secure travel insurance when commuting to performances

White Level: Creative Outlet Director (could also be DT director)
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Worship Team leader
Duties:
1.      Work with Drama Coordinator to conduct drama auditions in the fall
2.      Form Creative Outlet troupe
3.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
4.      Select dramas or play(s) for performance weekend (could be one 2 act plays or a full length production)
5.      Recruit and work with a CO team (producer, tech crew, publicity and others as needed)
6.      Manage CO budget
7.      Lead rehearsals
8.      Meet with supervising campus minister as needed

White Level: Dinner Theatre Director (could also be CO Director)
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Worship Team leader
Duties:
1.      Work with supervising campus minister to select Dinner Theatre show
2.      Recruit and supervise music director, producer, and assistant director
3.      Serve on audition committee for Centerstage and One Acts
4.      Lead auditions for Dinner Theatre in the fall
5.      Lead rehearsals as needed (usually on Saturdays and Sundays in January and February as well as the full week before first show)
6.      Create the spiritual climate of group, including accountability with the Performance Group Covenant
7.      Meet with supervising campus minister as needed

Black Level: Outreach Team Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Coordinate evangelism projects and ministries including, but not limited to:
a.       Providing an ongoing visitation program in apartments and dorms
b.      Working with the Discipleship Team leader to coordinate at least one evangelism training event per year
c.       Securing a team to plan and conduct an annual evangelism emphasis (a weeklong event with the intent to share the gospel with the UGA students, faculty and staff)
d.      Helping to organize and enlist students to participate in the annual Georgia Baptist Convention “CrossOver” events
e.       Organizing summer outreach at Freshman Orientations with the New Students coordinator and campus ministers
2.      Assist the ministry coordinators in planning weekly lessons/programs in conjunction with the BCM themes
3.      Oversee and actively work with the Missions Education/Recruitment and Fundraising Coordinators
4.      Assist in publicizing all mission opportunities to the BCM by working with the Website Coordinator (as communications liaison)

Gray Level: Homeless Shelter Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Outreach Team leader
Duties:
1.      Contact the homeless shelter personnel at the beginning of the semester to schedule ministry dates
2.      Coordinate and organize at least one meal and one community mission project each semester
3.      Recruit volunteers
4.      Assist with volunteers orientation as scheduled

Gray Level: Broad Acres Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Outreach Team leader
Duties:
1.      Contact Miss Sarah in the spring to coordinate the program for the following year
2.      Coordinate and organize the weekly program at the Broad Acres Housing Project
3.      Lead or appoint students to lead the organized portions of the weekly ministry event (a Bible study in accordance with the BCM theme for the week, sing-a-longs, crafts, and recreation)
4.      Recruit volunteers
5.      Assist with volunteers orientation as scheduled

Gray Level: Retirement Home Coordinator
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Outreach Team leader
Duties:
1.      Coordinate, plan, and organize the weekly program at the retirement home
2.      Lead or appoint students to lead the organized portions of the weekly ministry event (a Bible study or devotion in accordance with the BCM theme for the week, music, etc.)
3.      Recruit volunteers
4.      Assist with volunteer orientation as scheduled

Red Level: 2 International Outreach Coordinators
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Outreach Team leader
Duties:
1.      International Coordinators will work together with their supervising campus minister to plan a comprehensive ministry to the international students attending UGA, including:
a.       Attending International Coffee House each week (and hosting once a semester)
b.      Organizing and leading a Conversational English program
                                                                                      i.      Includes choosing curriculum
                                                                                    ii.      Recruiting volunteers to assist with classes & teaching
                                                                                  iii.      Publicize program to international students in as many ways as possible
                                                                                  iv.      Host event each week (best if done in Small housing)
c.       Coordinating language partners (BCMers paired with International students)
d.      Work with leaders of Chinese Bible Study to promote BCM to Chinese students
e.       Create, publicize and organize social events for international students
f.       Attend, promote and organize participation in state International events
g.      Meet with International Student Life Director to continue a positive relationship between BCM and ISL
2.      Coordinate ministries with International Friends of the Serepta Baptist Association
3.      Educate BCM on international’s ministry
4.      Recruit others to assist with international ministries
5.      Manage International Ministry budget along with supervising CM

Red Level: 2 Missions Coordinators
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and Outreach Team leader
Duties:
1.      One will serve as the Missions Fundraising Coordinator
a.       Organize missions fundraisers each semester
b.      Work with the communications team to publicize events involving fund-raising (website coordinator, liaison)
c.       Work with Creative Outlet, Ride for Christ, Dinner Theatre coordinators as needed
2.      One will organize all missions education efforts, including:
a.       Publicize mission opportunities available through the GBC Collegiate Missions program, North American Mission Board, International Mission Board, and other mission partners
b.      Provide application materials for mission opportunities
c.       Meet with Outreach team regularly
d.      Coordinate and promote spring break missions options, including:
                                                                                      i.      BCM sponsored projects
                                                                                    ii.      Local church sponsored projects
                                                                                  iii.      Projects offered by partner organizations
e.       Work closely with the Gathering Team in promoting mission education during Gathering throughout the year
f.       Work closely with the Gathering Team to plan a mission emphasis in the fall and commissioning services in the spring (for spring break and summer missionaries)
3.      Together will organize, coordinate and serve on the Collegiate Missions Local Interview Committee
4.      Work with the communications team to publicize events involving missions opportunities, procedures and deadlines (website coordinator, liaison)
5.      Recruit a team to offer communication, encouragement and support for those serving as missionaries during the summer
Skills: service as a GBC collegiate missionary is helpful; good organizer, promoter, encourager, and communicator; and have a passion for missions
 
Black Level: Fellowship Team Leader
Responsible to: supervising campus minister and President
Duties:
1.      Facilitate the planning of social events and activities for the BCM for the purpose of building the body of Christ by building “Koinonia,” including (but not limited to):
a.       Recruit a team to Plan, decorate, publicize, and clean-up for winter dance in the fall
b.      Recruit a team to assist alumni to plan, decorate, publicize, and clean-up for Spring Banquet/Dance planning team in the spring
c.       Assist mission team members as needed with Wednesday lunch, dinner theatre, and all BCM socials
d.      Serve on and enlist others to work on the Homecoming Committee
e.       Provide food for Open House (Fall and Spring)
2.      Oversee and meet regularly with the Fellowship Team
3.      Coordinate communication and publicity needs with the State of the Union/Local Church Coordinator (of the Communications Team)
4.      In conjunction with supervising campus minister, manage the Fellowship team budget
5.      Work with Discipleship small group leaders to plan social events for small groups (individual and corporate)
6.      Assist team in planning social events for BCM-wide retreats
